Fashion Week Toronto

Ironically, I'm not a fan of Fashion Shows... *shrugs* I think they end where the show ends (at least for most people). I have a preference towards other forms of 'showings' that actually last for longer than 15 minutes. All that hard work... then... Okay, I'll

stop. Well I went for the screening of the September Issue last year at LG Fashion Week.

Everywhere was dolled up nicely and I had a great time looking at gorgeous people and stealing bags of caramel popcorn from empty seats! Yep! The movie was alright. I was a bit bored, to be honest.

I had nothing to wear that day and decided to keep it simple. I went very unlike me- sweet and girly. *gag*. (I secretly liked it). Ify looked great in her Carolina Herrera-esque skirt and a slinky turtle neck top. :-)

This year, I attended one show; Lucian Matis. Brilliant! I was sick for other shows. I'll try to

do a few more shows next time and steal editors' front-row seats.

The fun continued when I was asked to do some stills for COSMOtv! That was surprisingly random. Unfortunately I barely watch any tv so I'm not sure how I'm gonna catch that one.

I wore a classic black Zara dress and accessorized with: Snake-skin Stuart Weizman for Russell & Bromley sandals+ tribal earrings + frohawk+ red lipstick. Ify looked great too in her vibrant blue trench dress over a black mini + sexy Miu Miu pumps.

if you notice, I sit down to take most of my pix at fashion week 'cause i'm shy. ify on the other hand, will pose in ny times square.

I was hoping to bump into Toronto's fashion-savvy folk that I knew but I didn't get the chance... Everything just happened so quick, like a flash! But it's always fun to see people put some thought in their looks. I enjoyed myself... in a weird way.

My next stop is the FAToronto, which some of my friends will be participating in. Roll on end of April! ;-)

What a day!

Quick recount of my roller coaster day;

1. I woke up feeling wayyy better after the most disturbing flu ever (to the point where my gums were itching).

2. I went to get my hair sides shaved but the stylist thought it was okay to cut the longest part of my hair into half. I'm not sulking over length but he gave me a mohawk I wasn't interested in. I wanted a Sumo wrestler-type shave... Length everywhere, nothing on the sides/back but instead I got a nappy-hawk. Not a fan of universal hairdos. I'll rock on tho'.

3. I went to LG Fashion Week! I missed one show I was invited to on Tuesday because I was ill, however I paid to see Lucian Matis yesterday and I couldn't love him more. He's so cute ;-). I couldn't really take pix, everything was so fast-paced! More on #LGFW later.

4. I had the most fulfilling dinner ever afterwards! Everything I wanted in food; vegetables, fish, flatbread, cheese... The pix will explain better.

5. I'm home now and I'm more inspired to continue creating 10 killer looks for the Afropolitan Collection. It never went anywhere... Still coming through!

Afropolitan Collection Update

Hi everybody!

It's already almost mid-November and I've been tight-lipped about the new collection but now I've got bitter-sweet news...

It's been pushed until further notice. I truly apologize to everyone. The preparation is taking so much more than expected and I'd like to make sure all grounds are covered before venturing out into something so big. I'm going back to my drawing board and getting things done better and I want to assure you all that it will be the best Afropolitan collection you ever saw! I'm researching in-depth, scrutinizing harder, working meticulously with extremely talented people in every aspect.

I'm still eager to show everyone what I can do and I'm very much excited for what's brewing. You all should be too! ;-)

Thank you all so much for the anticipation and support. It really does push me to go harder. Afropolitan still coming through!!!

The Afropolitan Collection

I'm back blogging for the meantime as I am working on my most exciting project yet! First, I'll start by apologizing for leaving so rudely, I'll be more civil next time.

Right now I'm working on my Afropolitan Collection which will be released by late November, and will have some pieces on sale afterwards! *cartwheels*

This collection is inspired by the Afropolitans who Taiye Tuakli-Worsornu describes as:

"the newest generation of African emigrants, in the industrialised world. You'll
know them by a funny blend of London fashion, New York jargon, African ethics and academic success.
If nothing else, the Afropolitan knows that nothing is neatly black or white; that to 'be' anything is a matter of being sure of who you are uniquely."

For me, the afropolitan woman is sophisticated, fun, conscious, strong, intelligent and unique! She knows what she wants and achieves her goals in life. There is some mystery to her as she always represents her African heritage in an unprecedented yet highly admirable way.

This collection does not only refer to the person who is of African descent, but to anyone who can relate to this successful multi-dimensional virtue. For a while, I have been trying to come up with images that convey compelling images of the afropolitan however, I believe the ultimate high will be in the final collection *goosebumps and faster heart rate*. These are some of my images I have come up with...

Bra or no?...maybe?

Today's weather is wet and cold, no sunlight = sappy and blue... Perfect weather for me to throw on a Mack and a pair of Wellies, no make up, no cheerful smiles, just a pretty long face to go! But that wasn't even what made the day sad for me... I went out to run some errands and my body started itching. Usually it's much worse as my body itches so bad that I feel as if an army of ants are crawling all over me. I get so profane in my thoughts and the slightest glimpse of clutter I see leads me to tears ='( . There's this one commercial image of a dog sitting on a pile of snack bones that kills me when this happens... When will I find a solution? Sigh! *

I was e-looking around and I realized that though not a new trend, some women are comfortable roaming clearly sans the baby food-holder... The Bra!

PRC tomorrow... Can't wait!

Tomorrow, the semi-final (I think) for Project Runway Canada will be airing and I can't wait. Honestly, I haven't been blown away by anyone on the show except for Sunny Fong who keeps delivering EVERYfriggin'TIME like he got no other option! He's exceptional!

Jessica Biffi, whom I love her bubbly personality so much, is arguably the second best (it's between her and Jason Myers, who got eliminated and came back). Jason and Genevieve came back on the show and kicked my fellow Nigerian, Adejoke out! I almost cried for her because it was one of her best works but she got the scissors because of Kim

(whose personality was depicted as very bitchy on the show). I was happy Kim left, but still felt sorry for her. Girl needed a hug!

Anyway, Rachel Roy was the guest judge last week. There was just something about her that used to scare me... I dunno... Maybe it was this collection, lol (which I actually loved but it reminded me of colonial times for some reason). But jokes aside, after this episode, she came across softer...still militant, still opinionated but softer... Now I just think she is a strong woman who knows what she wants...and I'm loving her! (I'm sure by now, you all can tell that I love strong women).

I tried embedding the video but it doesn't work so try THIS . RR had some insightful things to say.

Well, I can't believe I gave 2 posts in one day. Man, why can't life be this easy?! *sigh*

The Simmonseseses...

There’s something subtly exciting about Angela’s look here. Possibly the best put-together look I’ve seen on her in ages and I’ll tell you why.

Here she’s almost going ‘sweet and simple’, which can be synonymous with ‘safe and boring’, but takes it up a notch by opting for the geometric sandals and structured top handle to tone down all that frilly-girliness going on in that dress. Also noteworthy, is the red hue boldly featured from the shoes and bag without being unnecessarily dramatic. I hope she didn’t think too hard on this one before coming out, because it’s looking right Angela!

Okay, she's no longer a Simmons but it's about Kimora’s top... I assume it's one of those tee captions that'd make any pregnant woman feel phat instead of fat??? Whatever the case, the whole idea is literally cute! =)

I was not going to go back to school until my mother called on her friend and they gave my big sis and I a pep-talk for a couple hours (which didn't change much then, lol). But now, I'd do anything to pull my hair back!

After seeing such gorgeousness that big foreheads are responsible for, I can't believe some people still consider it a flaw. Puhleaseeee! As Cynthia above once commented, "Big, regal foreheads are the norm..." And in my self-serving bias mode, I approve! =)

Party Up! =)

When it comes to the party scene, I have to say dressing up is my favorite part! In Nigeria, where I'm from (especially in the Yoruba culture), partying is a lifestyle! We party almost to a fault! lol And for us, these are the elements that make a party a party :

1. Great food! Not only must there be food, it must be in abundance as well. Are you ki'ing me?! lol I think it's unfortunate that we don't have food in parties anymore, just drinks. lol

2. Scintillating music (the type that would provoke a paralyzed person to get up and dance!)

3. The clothes... You know that the issue of matching clothes with the shoes and bags (whether right or wrong, lol) is a very touchy one to Nigerian women!

Whatever the case, I can relate. Looking good is a MUST, whether it be jeans and tees. The last party my posse and I went for was NEPA. A much anticipated party organized by the Carleton University Nigerian Students Association (CUNSA), which is arguably the most active Nigerian association in Canada. It was sooo much fun! Red carpet, DAV!D, flashing lights, DAV!D, fab music, DAV!D, meeting amazing new people, DAV!D, DAV!D, DAV!D and so on!

I put together some flicks from the party that caught my eye... There were thousands of them to scheme through and heaven knows, I got tired! As per the fashion part, people looked good but I didn't see anything mind-blowing (except for the DAV!D look of course, lol)... Anyway, if you're wearing it well, you're wearing it well, iniit? Enjoy!

The Men Clockwise: Mr. Gidilounge in his crisp vest; Donald M is working that red carpet! lol; Olumide B. did pink and red justice; Donald Ofik- Dude is a trendsetter, watch his space!; Jimi Bolu having too much fun in his dapper bowtie, definitely another trendsetter to look out for; Ikenna O. kept it simple and sweet in the cargo colors and boat shoes; Deji K. brought the heat in a leather blazer...

Random: Kwame and I (bottom left) reuniting after 4 years?; Kenny (top left) is gonna kill me but I love the way he's dancing in that pic. lol Overall, NEPA was loads of fun. Got me dancing in my full length dress and all...lol

On a closing note, my woman of the night: Miss Ify Olu... Donning a metallic custom DAV!D dress. She did look like molten lava... Tsssttt! I love the way she worked the entire look with the head wrap, thong flats and the DAV!D swagg to go. Work itttt!!! =)

I Usually Leave My Traumatizing Tales for Facebook but...

...I almost died last night! I was laying on my couch, laptop on my tummy, probably catching up on theybf.com then suddenly! A FETCHING BUG FELL THROUGH THE VENT!!! Then came a relatively loud sound from the fall and then it scampered its way beneath the cushion VIA MY ELBOW!

*dead*

If you know me, you'll know that I'm usually animated. I dunno what I must've looked or sounded like screaming and flying off that couch in a microsecond! I think this is the bug but I'm not sure 'cause this one looks wayyyy smaller and redder! The one that dropped on me was greyyy and as big as my pinky finger.

It's almost 24 hours since it happened and I haven't smelt my couch! Now, I will say no to sitting near vents! Just what I needed to add to my 10-item phobia list. ;-(

After flushing this intruder down the toilet where it'll NEVER return, I'm reading that the thing is harmless. Sorry.

Project Runway Canada 2

So the much anticipated PR Canada II starts on Tuesday and I'm well excited! The show is months late but at this point, I don't even mind. At least it's not cancelled! Phew!

I heard a Nigerian girl was in the show a long time ago and I'd been dying to find out who. Well here she is, Adejoke Taiwo. I wish I was the first to be on the show but I'm tres happy nonetheless. I hope she wins! You can watch her audition here as well...

Firestarter, do you wanna set it off?!

I think this was the most interesting thing I did with DAVID after school. I worked on a couple costumes for a music video by the Kings of the Revolution! Yay! It was fun working for my friend, Bolaji Kekere-Ekun (or K-E-X as his own Sasha Fierce,lol) who is a film director in Los Angeles. I had to conceptualize, sketch, and send them to him for approval or rejection (the rejection part wasn't cool) ;-)The first scene which starts at 1.00 shows the 1st outfit. It was inspired by a fairy but one brought to life by a mad scientist in a frigid environment (who K-E-X played).

Conceptualization + Finished design

Tafero's scene came second at 1.50 and portrayed a gladiator and a goddess. That outfit was inspired by a scene Bolaji sent to me from the Matrix III.

The Sage's scene was great too! Mo Coco Ninalowo played the oracle in the video. She looked STUNNING in DAVID! And may I just add that nous Canadiennes were rawking the video! (Tafero, Mo and DAVID... Yessss....)

And here is the grand video. Quite deep, I must say. I especially LOVE the end! Great work Kings of the Revolution! ;-)

Is Anyone Still Here?!?!

I hope so! Hello everybodayyy, I'm back!!! After being hounded by concerned folk, I have decided to blog again. I was M.I.A. for a while and didn't want to bore you all with gabs about everybody and everything else but DAVID. But I guess DAVID can share things that DAVID likes too right? So now I'll try and blog as often as I can!

Well, 2008 wasn't so boring after all. It ended on an amazing note. I was in London with the fam (and someone tell me why it so cold down there this time?! It even snowed! Eek!) I graduated from my undergrad; never went for the ceremony though. I did get a J-O-B last year. Yes, a full-time job but we won't go there. I worked on a couple things that I will talk as I blog more often (Can somebody say Firestarter?!) All in all, I am thankful for last year. It was the beginning of new and beautiful things to come! I hope everyone got into 2009 with great spirits and expectations. Okay, let's get to blogging...

I am temporarily off official DAVID matters for now. I'm just trying to finish this undergrad with some grace. It was a tough choice to make but I'm glad I finally made a decision, you know. I've got only a few months left for my undergrad but my entire life to work on DAVID.

BUT this isn't any goodbye. I hate goodbyes (except to bad rubbish)! I'll just probably not be posting a lot of DAVID related stuff for a while. I was also meant to put some really gorgeous accessories that were supposed to be hand-made by me but I guess that'll be my return gift to you all.

So hopefully I'll still be blogging almost not as weirdly as I have been doing lately. *We'll keep our fingers crossed for this one, hehe*

My excuse? None to be said. I just apologize! It's actually easier to just stay blogging than to vacay on your readers and come back begging. God help us!

Okay, there is a crap load to talk about on here and I'm not sure where to begin...

The freshest one yet is I just did a Project Catwalk Season 3 marathon! (currently 451am) All episodes in one stretch! Oh lawddd!!! I was aching for Jasper to win anyways OR Ross. Those were the bad boys of the season. Jasper was just pure genius from scratch, so he won unsurprisingly! Ross didn't make it to the top three (or free as my Brits say it) but he had some deep architectural influences running through his veins. The runner up Miss Chelsea Oliver was also pretty good. She's only my age and she sews up a storm! I have to say this season had wayyy more talent than the last. The previous one sucked major! And to add to that, Jasper and Chelsea are Canadians!!! Yayyy!!! Nous Canadiennes 'rock'! *cheesing*
BLUE STREAKS. Guess who's rocking blue hues in their hair?

I know it's kinda stale at the moment but it's Marc Jacobs! Pretty much the most notorious and one of the most creative contemporary designers! The current brain behind Louis Vuitton definitely looks younger and reminds me of....

(Oh and Marc and I have also got the same ear-piercing arrangements! heehee)

Then there is my current obsession with the Food Network. My next collection will probably look as interesting as curly parsley leaves, raw as rare steak and tasty as gruyere cheese!

As a matter of fact, I have crushes on Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay! And to think Mr. Ramsay was in town and I didn't go see him is ridiculous! The things I don't do sometimes! For real, a man that can throw down is definitely a PLUS for me. So yeah, we'll be making more references to Food Network because that ain't ever going nowhere!!!

I'm not aiming to be a chef or anything but I'm learning a true appreciation for good food. I'd LOVE to go on a food tour some time in my life and I think my 1st stop would be Chicago, IL. I hear they got great food there. You see, it's not really about the 200-star restaurants but really the soul behind the food. So I can go to NY to look for the best street-hot dogs ever and still go to Japan to have the best sushi. It's all in good faith. I even got this little hypothesis I'm working on that:

Good Food+ Good Music+ Good Friends= Good Life

So next time I say ''Welcome to the good life'', you know exactly what I mean. =)

I have to upload pix soon of some things Food Channel has taught us with regards to plating, flavours, creativity, and just basically the art of eating. Yes, eating is an art and thankfully one we can ALL enjoy!

So good music... I've been listening to Kirk Franklin's new album for about 2 weeks now. AWESOME. Dude is BLESSED! Nigerian music is the business right now especially Wande Coal, 9ice and Asa (pronounced Asha). So if you're craving Nigerian music, GidiLounge is the new hang-out spot.

I guess that's the round up for now. I'll come back with more as soon as I can articulate my thoughts (I don't know who asked me to take this hiatus).

Why is it that many creative minds, especially fashionistas, cannot concentrate on one thing for long??? It's as if they have ADD or something! It's funny but sooo common! I was just talking to one who I called multi-talented because he sings, raps, makes films, writes and dresses dapper! But he responded with 'lack of concentration'! In fact, there is one (currently trying to incorporate 100 necklines into 1 flapper dress) in my living room right now. lol

I won't even start pointing fingers here because I am very much easily distracted too. I find it challenging to focus on one thing. What's ironic though, is I need distraction to focus! Yes, I need to refuse distraction literally otherwise I'll go looking for it. Is it a bad thing though? I think not! It does help some stay sane. Imagine if you had only a handful of things you wanted to do? Fewer options, less opportunities to adventure, less RISKS, low adrenaline levels? No FUN! Besides life isn't an exact science like Math, it's way more unpredictable just like the artsy mind is. And truly, that's the beauty of life. So for all larger-than-life, aesthetically inclined, fun-loving, whimsical-minded folks out there, rock on! We run this!

Because I'd love to know how she's aged in a different direction from most of her JCrew and Naturalizer peers...

I mean, there is something more to this woman's look than meets the eye. The personality within screams louder than the clothes. Yes! Her look is nothing short of interesting; starting from the conspicuous colors, to the overdone mixture of different patterns (I say her jacket looks like the curtains we had when I was 3), to the blue lox...
...BUT look at her pursed lips... It's like something calmingly-witty is going through her head. It does seem like she's cognizant and also very in sync with herself (observe the way she clutches that umbrella or whatever it is... very assuring!) Ironically, when she expresses it, it only translates as the opposite, hence the masquerade-esque appearance!

Finally we can see DAV!D at the HUASA Show 2008!

Inspired by various things, this collection, Rouge Noir (named after the Chanel lipstick that I love so much now), is eclectic with different kinds of fabrics and textures to represent the richness in individualities, talents, looks of Africans, especially those in the diaspora.

I usually go from design to fabric but this time I reversed the process to see where it'll lead me. And where to? I feel like I was led to a place of 'power, determination and inherent royalty'.

I even took on a bigger challenge to go for deeper and duller prints as opposed to the bright and vibrant colors everywhere, so I could push my design buttons even more. Even with all the distracting Java and Woodin prints out there, I thought I'd focus more on what I'm here for- creating innovative, timeless pieces.

To say I have no regrets at all with this collection would be a litote. Rather, I LOVE this collection with ALL my heart! I only would have wished for impeccable sartorial skills so that those kick-ass drawings in my sketchbook would have been a reality for sure. I can only hope that I'll be sewing as good as Todd Lynn one day; that would be the DAY!

2. The web site for FashionAfrica is officially out! WHAT! It is REALLY nice, as in, REALLY REALLY hot! And it's not just the layout. It really does have content; designer, artist and model profiles, events, what not? Just dope! The ingenious mind behind this movement be doing big thangz! Again Dammie, marry me! How many times do I have to propose?

3. I have had the bestest-worstest weekend ever! And I have eaten enough fried plantains to feed an army. I am wrapping up my new collection. 15 unforgettable pieces and some for plus sized too. Nigerian traditional wear is SO not boring, thank you!

So inspired by this bad girl! I love her =) Chanel Hydrabase Crème Lipstick 18- Rouge Noir. Got one for myself by ALL means. Even though I paid more for it 'cause I purchased it in Euros. It's soft on the lips. Does not form that messy line when you talk or chew, does not dry the lips and ultimately looks FA-BU-LOUS! *I feel like Oprah when she endorses toothpicks*

On the other hand, DAV!D is among the designers showing at the Howard University African Students Association Fashion Show!!! Nya Nytsee!!! (or The Return)... I'm looking forward to it! It's a LIE. I"M FRIGGIN' excited!!! Arrrrrggggghhhh!!! Okay, before I lose my marbles...

You probably won't see much of me until I get my whole shebang completed for the show *why do I have a familiar feeling that I'll do the contrary?* I have a crapload of finishings to do! God help me so I don't end up taking the mickey like Wayne who won Project Catwalk II. He still won regardless. My fave 3 were in the top 3 and my fave PR Canada contestant ended up winning. Am I psychic?

Anyhizzle, it's Vals day today. I wanted to stay away from the color red just because, you know... Alas, my wardrobe has only red to offer me! =( I just hope I don't look too generic. Wedding Fever

I find it very interesting that society is totally okay with you meeting this guy or girl and saying you want to spend the rest of your life with them! This strange union is called marriage (possibly another of life's many scams), but the idea works! The whole situation got me pensive someday when I thought of how people move from one continent to another because they are in love. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against it. It's just a little...a little... weird (at least from this perspective!)

So Nigeria was like a wedding ground this Christmas. I mean, one hundred weddings every weekend (not that I attended them all) or one Introduction or the other... Actually my aunty had one at my house and WHAT CAN I SAY???!!! It was L-I-V-E! As in, the marriage proposal was a golden scroll (neat eh?) And you pretty much had to make it rain on the drummers every time they hit that talking drum. Then there was the MC that just had a sugar-coated tongue. Like she could make you spray yourself by accident! lol And there was the food. Hmm, Yoruba people don't play. People from Ibadan wanted their amala and those from Ekiti wanted their own food. It was worth it in the end though!

Then my cousin also got married. *Very emotional moment for me here*...She was the 1st child in our generation to get married. It was happiness all the way! (*cough cough* Pix on Facebook)... And so much talk about weddings this holiday, it was crazy!

Meanwhile, my new wedding icon is Grace Ormonde. She is the Editor-In-Chief of Wedding Style magazine. Gracious! This mag will make you want to get married! lol Apart from the lush and heavenly settings and the REALLY good-looking men, some bridal styles got my attention. I thought they were very innovative and outside-the-boxish, lol...

Happy new year everyone!!! It's been over a month, I know, I know. And I apologize.
So MUCH has happened since then. The good, the bad and the ugly. I want to blog about everything in depth but I refuse to bore all you lovely folks who read this blog.

I guess the most significant thing is that I went to Nigeria for Christmas and New Year's... It was bluddy eventful and a wonderful mix of emotions, feelings and thoughts. The most amazing things happened, like me meeting Emmy Collins (the only male Nigerian designer I'm psyched about other than the Okunoren twins), he's as cool as his creations... Best believe!
And as for the Nigerian fashion scene? Hmm... Lemme just say too few risk-takers, too many followers. I won't go on but we will get there. I believe so.

What else??? Yeah, I wanted to kill Lagos drivers. They drive on side-walks, honk at every opportunity and don't understand what right of way is. I actually always forgot to make my mini placards saying 'YOU'RE VERY ANNOYING' 'OBEY TRAFFIC RULES, YOU MUMU!' 'DO NOT EVEN TOUCH THIS CAR'... One day it was so annoying that I wrote 'Scaredy cat!' to this man who was trying to get away from the mobile police at the expense of my mother's car! But he never came near the car again. I'm sure he would have said 'Look at this small girl, am I your mate?! Blah blah blah' Whatev!

Anyhow, I was very uninspired late last year for some weird reason. But I think it was just a transition from light to dark OR pale to rich, however you wanna look at it. My taste now leans towards intense hues, have no idea why *asks a pastor what that could mean* lol. I'm loving it though. There's just this very heavy, daring, saucy, confident, over-dramatic and somewhat sinful surge that comes over me when I think of fashion. Ideally, I can't stand pale, bright or light colors right now. Except white. Now I wear dark lipstick, dark nail polish and I just enjoy the bleeding effect. It scared me for a bit but I'm rolling with it anyway. I want to see where it takes me, hopefully into somewhere that oozes power, determination and inherent royalty.

Well well well, I'm back in school. Or as some say to me 'back to reality' but I beg to differ. I think this whole 'school thing' is just one of the many scams of life. I imagine the world to be very different and this institutional enchilada just doesn't fit in the picture. However, we are all victims of this ''scam'', including myself THEREFORE I must go to school and get one or two degrees or something like that. Just because you know of/about the scam does not mean that you're completely free from it. Your mind can be free but the physical remains what it is. You know, it's like the Matrix. (God bless Olumide A. and the Wachowski brothers!) That being said, I have fallen victim to this same delusional 'school system': I am a week late to school so I have 24 hrs to do an assignment that was done in a week. See what the scam is doing to poor me? Whatev, life goes on!

I just ODd (overdosed) on Project Runway Season 4 and Project Runway Canada Season 1. For several reasons, I had no time to catch them on TV but I watched them religiously, back-to-back yesterday and today... Oh, and add some ANTM to that!

I'm really excited about this magazine because it's one of the hottest things coming out of Canada now (we all know Canadians are typically mellow and so are the Nigerians that come here).But this one is LIVE! And it belongs to my darlings of *insert city name here* (I don't want stalkers following them)! Anyway, they're doing big things and I'm so honored to be a part of it. They featured me as one of their designers for their debut *tear* (Why am I crying sef? They had no choice, I'm mean like that! lol)...

1. Isn't it irritatting when people ADD you on Facebook and then put you on their LIMITED profile list? Insane, I think. (But I can definitely take that back if someone offers a reasonable rebuttal)...

2. Call it attention-seeking but I hate being ignored! I'd rather have you tell me upfront that you don't wish to speak than to act like I'm not there. Gosh!
My mother would do that for days and I'd just keep repeating myself 'Mum, when can I go with her?' 'Mum, when can I go with her?' 'Mum, when can I go with her?' 'Mum, when can I go with her?' 'Mum, when can I go with her?' 'Mum, when can I go with her?' And I'll say this to the power of infinity until something is done.

3. Why do some people act like school is all they live for? I'm sorry but if you're not an aspiring professor or researcher, then you are an aspiring loser to treat school like it's your life. Yes, I said it! *stick my tongue out to those in question*

4. Why is Keyshia Cole dressed like this? I have to honestly say I'm not really against it (I mean with a few touch-ups she can look like the true dime piece she's attempting to resemble)

1. Why do we humans call one another ugly but think all dogs are 'cuuutee'. In fact, the 'uglier' a dog, the more beautiful we think it is!

2. I can't understand why people are fascinated with the smell of their fart! (When I say 'they' I mean it. I've never farted or done any of that nastiness in my life, sorry!) They 'hate' gross smells but when that H2S that smells like rotten eggs, spoiled beans and decayed broccoli comes out the hole, they stop in their tracks (if they are walking or something) and just 'live in the moment'... Somebody help me!

3. Why do people eat Brussel's sprouts?! WHY?! The nastiness is unbearable!

4. Why can't the West live without coffee? I mean, what is so necessary about that drink?

AND LASTLY somebody tell me where 'dance' can be found in grinding?

Which One Are You?: Shopping Habits Edition

I don't know if it's allowed in in English language to use the question mark right beside the colon, but I just did in that heading! Lol! So, I got the most dynamic and most beautiful sisters anyone could ever ask for. They are amazing and have been with me forever and now, it's time to put them on blast! (Sorry girls, you know what it is. I still love you all muchly *evil snickers*) I am going use them as my pivots for discussing SHOPPING HABITS today. YAYYYY!!!! I choose to start with the most abnormal one because I think she hasn't even realized HOW anomalous she is. LMAO!

1. inDECISIVE DEZs
If you shop A LOT but still never find anything to wear, OR if you find yourself returning stuff (or thinking about returning them) OR you're always hating what you've bought afterwards. Or if you have unworn clothes that your friends end up wearing for you after a year because they see you've got short term amnesia? Then you are not alone! Join the inDECISIVE DEZs. lol

2. ADAMANT ANUs

(I can't possibly spell Anu's name in plural form or I'll be seen as vulgar iniit). So! These are the ones that just HATE shopping but LOVE to look nice! They can shop for anything but clothes. They hate to join queues to pay and don't even take them to Oxford street on Boxing day (speaking from experience). A woman that hates to stress it for her looks, I just can't quite fathom this. Anyway, if this is you, welcome!

3. QLEVER QUEENs

Now, if you're a QQ, you're either straight up smart OR straight up stupid! I'll tell you why. You use shopping as your relief therapy for many things, especially being broke! lol This is nice if you know what you want so you just go for it without regrets. Butif you go shopping real quick after getting a few bucks and then become an inDECISIVE DEZ? Sorry for you! QQs also love the world's largest online market- EBAY! They target certain clothes and watch them religiously until 3 minutes to the end of bidding time then you see them acting like they're on crack! QQs' theme basically like Rich Boy is 'Get clothes, new clothes. It's what you been waiting on!' Gotta luv the QQs!

4. MELLOW MAUTINs
*Yawn* I know Mautin's gonna kill me for this but I don't know why people in this category tend to notice fads after they've
died down! MMs probably don't even know what's going on outside their immediate interests hence they just wear mundane stuff... Pretty much Sears-type people. Shopping with MMs takes a lot of convincing and reminding them that clothes look good on them and that sequins are actually not awkward but very pretty!

5. HIGH-MAINTENANCE HADIZAs
Hmmm... the title says it all! My cousin is someone I can always trust to NEVER find knock-offs in her wardrobe! The ease at which she buys labels and hands them over to you when you're with her can make you deceptive with yourself! lol So HMHs are the ones that just go straight to Selfridges because they know they can't be let down by Louis Vuitton and Versace. *Cough cough then sigh*

6. EFFICIENT ENIs
(Yes, I have to blow my horn because some of you don't know about me yet, lol). EEs are very efficient shoppers. If they go shopping and don't come back with amazing buys then something is wrong with the fashion/commercial system and never them! lol When my friends go shopping and say there was 'nothing in the stores' they also add 'but we don't know about you' because EEs always find diamond in the dirt! And most times, the diamond is at the price of dirt too! (I think that trait is courtesy of DAV!D =) ) I have walked out of Winners before with a huge bag containing 2 tops, 2 handbags, a blazer, 2 belts, a pair of shoes and receipt saying $85! Best believe, EEs are wikid shoppers!

I had to make a category for this one. He's such a killer when it comes to shopping!

I think this one's definitely an honorable mention considering he's a guy and where we came from. I've known him for about 7 years now. He has grown so much and frankly the day it dawned on me that we had our very own male Fashion Vanguard was one faithful summer I was visiting family in London. Shafiyi came from Geneva to say hi and of course went shopping. My mouth dropped when I went through his shopping bags! Gracious! Impeccable taste! And it was just EFFORTLESS. He's also a guy that can give women sincere Fashion advice without judging with too much testosterone! So you're a Sophistocrat Shafiyi when you can ALWAYS handle the heat of fashion and stay on top of your game regardless of what's popping around you!

I feel like separating Fashion design from this cruel cold world, honestly! I'm just very concerned about how trivial others see what I consider a lifestyle. It's very sickening and disheartening! Why does everything have to be so political and institutionalized and shady?!

I'm not even sure exactly what I'm ranting about by now but I just hate the state that I see in this clothing industry! It's horrible! The dubiousness is unbelievable! People lie to you and act like they are interested in what you have to offer but they are really looking out for themselves and nothing else! Others that got no business with Fashion and creativity are conducting Fashion events. Please, I'm sure some of you have fallen victim to those silly pervs who ask you to come model and then all they do is stare at you, lick their lips, ask you to strut your stuff and make you change publicly! I was totally appalled at some event where my models were getting ready in the dressing room and this cow had the nerve to say he was going to go in because he wanted them out asap! And we had like 30 minutes to do our thing eh?! Imagine the madness! This dude could not even keep his eyes off those girls when they came out. I really felt like having a convo with him afterwards to ask him what he knew about Fashion. Probably a dim-wit seeking some visual gratification. I think I'm feeling the same rage Jesus felt when He went into the temple and saw people trading there and treating it like nothing. Some people just don't get the point! If you are/were not called to be in the industry, PLEASE leave it for people who LOVE it, BREATHE it, EAT it, MAKE LOVE to it. Yes (How do you think I got my baby, DAV!D?) ;-)

Anyway, back to my ranting... And why on earth would a person ask me to fix their buttons when I tell them I am a FASHION DESIGNER? Why?! And why would you come to me and ask me to make you what YOU want? I AM NOT A TAILOR. I believe you have come to DAV!D because you like what DAV!D is all about. Gosh! To the extent that someone asked me to put their name on the sleeve of this chic top I designed for them! And the sleeves were baby sleeves too! What? You wanna look like a sophisticated meat-shop factory-worker? lol. O.K., O.K., I can forgive ignorance on behalf of customers.

On a more personal note, I recently began considering taking DAV!D one day at a time. It's not a final decision, but I'm really feeling like one simple step at a time will do the trick. I don't wanna get caught up in this web of madness. I know my designs are fabulous (and I know they'll get even better as I grow, bGg). That's why I just feel like I should focus on the love and passion for this Art and do it WELL (just how I want it to be done). I'm thinking of making DAV!D VERY EXCLUSIVE. You know, design personal and intricate pieces for my cherished customers and doing so at 'our' pace. Doing my photoshoots when I want and how I want (without any photographer asking my model to open her mouth so she can be sexy). I just want peace in this love life with DAV!D. I know some people may say "Well, that's how life is. If you want something, you gotta go out there and fight for it". Well maybe protecting your own is what I may have to do for now to be sane and so I can continue to feel the same high I do when I think about DAV!D. I don't want DAV!D to become "another clothing line". I don't want DAV!D getting drowned by all these crazy people that think MONEY is all there is to life.

My love for DAV!D is ecstatic. It's fulfilling. I'm not sure if I wanna ruin that. Maybe I'll just go get a job as a Planner/Urban Designer to sustain my bank account while doing DAV!D on the side. Or get married to a filthy rich guy that will take care of my finances so I can nurture DAV!D at my pace and do what I want. I do not know but I'm painfully in love with something. *Sigh*

I'm a little hungry and I'm feeling some jollof rice and grilled chicken but I'd rather be blogging than cooking right now! I don't like cooking so when i cook, it's special =) NOTTTT!!!

Donc, people have been asking me how the name DAV!D came about and I think it's high time I told everyone finally to reduce the number of times I explain. Guys are more dramatic when asking because they're just hoping it's not one man I'm seeing on the downlow, you know! lol Pretty much, they're like ''So 'who' is David?'' Imagine! HAHAHA!!! Girls are more like, 'So where did the name DAV!D come from?'' And I say, 'David from the Bible... I love him... He's my favorite xter', then someone goes, 'I knew it!'...
Yeah, I did name my line DAV!D because I do love who David is... Then again, what could I have called it? Though it all started one summer when I used to sketch clothes a lot. And I would do this listening to some wikid spiritual music. I just really wanted to learn a new way to worship God. And the the whole rut of devotion was not cutting it for me so I decided to sketch as my own form of worship... So you see, as David would sing and play the harp, so would I sketch and make clothes... I'm sure you get the point by now!

DAV!D steps out: White & Denim Party

Okay guys, this is my first blog so bear with me. I'm better at expressing myself when I get real comfy with my audience but I dunno how this is gonna turn out so yeah!

So you know how you love something and want it in the future but you don't realize how much it's around you or in this case, in you? Yeah, that's what Fashion is to me. I guess I couldn't push it any further. I thought it would come sometime in the future but I didn't know that that future was NOW. And now, I wanna do this SO BAD (ofcourse I mean in April when I'm almost done Undergrad. Dyu want my mum to read this? lol). Don't get it twisted though, I LOVE Fashion design... It's something I'll never stop for the world. I'm just slowing it now for the sake of school (It's not like school's my fave thing but my mother is giving UW tens of thousands of dollars annually, I can't waste that!)...

Anyway, I'm just gonna share the story of my very first DAV!D outing. I was invited on Facebook to this white and denim party. Truth is, I never even knew the person that invited me personally (except that he was a York student who could give Kanye a run for his money with his dress sense) but I decided to go because of the theme. I checked out the pix for the event and pretty much, the clothes were just the generic Hip Hop/Pop-looking styles that everyone is wearing now; high-waisted pants, denim shorts with suspenders, cat suits, etc. So that got me thinking, how can we wear denim different? So I started scheming. Me and my 2 friends were walking to the grocery store and I began to share my ideas with them; ''Let's do dresses, sailor-skirts, long faded backless loosely-fit denim dresses with lacy shrugs, etc.''. I was digging the ideas and then I got serious about the event. The catch here was, we'd go for the party ONLY if we wore DAV!D.

Later on, we went fabric shopping. Oh my, the most fabric I had ever seen in my life! Rolls upon rolls!!! I felt like a kid in a candy store but I could not start running around (not because it was gonna look immature, I was just tired and worried about a whole bunch of stuff otherwise best believe I would!) We eventually found what we wanted after about 1.5 hours and went home. Then I got to measurements and cutting. See, the last time I did this, I was definitely younger than 9 yrs and I did it with paper. I had never sewn anything from scratch. But it all started coming together as I was sewing even though I was a novice. For instance, no one taught me that when you were dealing with curved patterns, you snip little bits of the excesses so there's less tension on the fabric. I figured it out after crying. I believe my Guide taught me that plus much more!

On the d-day, I was still sewing and had gotten very little done at 9.30pm when I was supposed to be there at 11.30pm. And if you know me well, I'd tell you I'm almost done just to stay positive. At midnight, I decided Queenette's skirt was not really what I wanted so we started to make drastic changes! The style we had was not DAV!D, I got it from this Fashion book I bought earlier. I just felt like, why would the model herself not wear DAV!D? It just did not add up. So we ripped this baby and started recreating a masterpiece (which was my fave of the night if I may add). By 3am, we were done with the three skirts. Thanks to UltraBond for reducing the number of stitches we had to do! We got to the lounge at 330 and ofcourse, the thing was done. But we were FASHIONABLY late! This girl stopped her car and asked for pictures and contacts so she could work with DAV!D sometime on a photoshoot. We got mad stares and people asking questions about where we got the clothes. Shoot! If only they knew! If you're my Facebook friend, you probably have seen the skirts enough times in my album. Regardless, that was the beginning of my DAV!D journey. And I ain't gonna stop just now.

And to Sean, I still do apologize for showing up SO late even after you put me and my friends on the guest list. Lol. Next time, we'll be on time and ON POINT!
